Upgrade to XP Pro from XP Home not being allowed

I am trying to upgrade a PC running OEM installed version of Home to Pro with
an Upgrade disk I've had for a couple of years and has worked before, but
the installation doesn't even begin before I get "Install cannot continue due
to this version being older than the version that is already installed" or
words to that effect. My only option is to do a clean install and I don't
care to do that.
Am I missing something here?

You're XP Home installation probably includes Service Pack 2
and your Pro Upgrade CD does not. You need to create a
"slipstreamed" version of your XP Pro CD.

Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP
