upgrade to xp pro from windows 2000 pro

I have a pc with windows 2000 professional installed. I purchase a full OEM
version of XP professional for this machine. Do you reccommend do a complete
reinstallation of the OS or just upgrading the existing version of Windows
2000? I want to prevent problems with applications not working properly any
unknown software errors. Thank you for your valuable input.

The OEM version of XP Pro can only be used for a clean install, you cannot
do an upgrade with it.

I normally recommend upgrading. Unlike with previous versions of
Windows, an upgrade to XP replaces almost everything, and usually
works very well. My recommendation would be to at least try the
upgrade, since it's much easier than a clean installation. You
can always change your mind and reinstall cleanly if problems
develop.

However in this instance, you don't have that choice. OEM
versions can *only* do clean installations, not upgrades. If you
can return what you bought, I would, and exchange it for an
Upgrade version, which doesn't cost much more, and can do either
a clean installation or an upgrade.

Well, since an OEM CD cannot perform an upgrade, our recommendations
are moot. You've no option but to perform a clean installation.
