Upgrade to Xp HE

I upgraded from Win 98 SE to XP HE. All went OK except I cannot get the
Windows exit and start sounds to work.
When I check them under Control, sounds they are OK. All other sound are
also OK.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

In its Explorer page make sure that 'Beep on errors' is checked. This
is what sets those sounds going. You can have the sound for Error set
to 'None' in Sounds if you like
