Upgrade Options: Which Way to Go?

Hi:

I just bought a new MB/Processor, new 120 gig HD, WinXP oem, intending a
system overhaul and upgrade.

I have Win98se set up now on my single (boot) HD (60 gig) with tons of data,
video files, etc.

Which way is best to upgrade?

Option A: Format the new HD right now, using 98se/Fat32, using latest fdisk
program I dl'd from microsoft. Copy the data from the old 60 gig hd to new
one. Reformat the 60 gig, clean install of XP, use NTFS. Reinstall apps.
Add 120 gig with data as a slave. Keep slave on Fat32 (I would guess that's
my only choice anyway since I formatted it with 98se).

Option B: Install new 120 gig. Format it and install XP, using NTFS. Slap
in the old 60 gig (with Win98se, apps. and data) as a slave. Hope like hell
apps. work, and the drive is recognized. (only question---what to do with
98se? Leave it alone, or try to delete or uninstall it? Can't imagine, but
I'm a novice). Even if apps. don't work, I suppose I can delete them,
reinstall them on the 120 gig with the XP.

Option C: Won't work, as people have kindly posted here for me, which is to
try to replace Win98se on the old 60 gig by installing the new XP Oem over
it. (Too bad---was thinking this was easiest, as I could then format the
120 and have it empty to use as slave data drive).

Option D: Anything you can think of that would be better than A, B, or C!
(from reading posts, sounds like any dual-boot solution would be more
trouble than its worth).

Thank you again. This group is invaluable.

Use F.A.S.T Files And Transfer Settings Wizard located on the XP CD.
You should probably install the new hard drive as the secondary slave. Then
use a Win98/Me boot disk to create partitions large enough to accommodate
the FAST file.
See the link below for more information.

As you bought an OEM disk your *only* option (apart from taking it back
if you can to swap for an 'upgrade' copy) is to boot the CD, install XP
clean, formatting as part of that, and then reinstall all software -
only the simplest of programs will not have material in the old Windows
folder or registry which you would not be able to bring across . You
could then put the old drive alongside as a slave to use for the data.
And to simplify bringing over settings and data files, read Gary
Woodruff's article on Files and settings Transfer at
