Question on NTFS format/Ghost

S

Setchell

Hi. I'm running Win98se and just bought a new 120 gig HD, MB and XP oem.
Installed the MB. Now I want to image using Ghost my old hd (whole thing:
might also clone it) onto the new drive, and then clean install to XP on the
(old) master.

Question: Can I format the new drive, that will act as a slave for my data,
using NTFS? Or do I need format it using Fat32 (and the updated fdisk) so I
can use Win98se to ghost my old drive before I wipe it clean for the XP
install?

Thanks for any responses.

If you clone the drive it will clone exactly what you have on your old hard
drive. In this case it would clone as fat32. I never had to format the drive
before cloning.
The cloning process would automatically format and copy the drive.
If you image to an NTFS drive you will be unable to ever use the windows
98se and a backup since windows 98se does not recognize NTFS.
Summary:
Cloning will result in FAT32.
Recommend imaging to a FAT32 if you wish to ever use windows 98se as a
backup. You can always convert FAT32 to NTFS in the future if necessary.
