My system is dual boot ME-XPhome with ME in C:(boot
drive). Now I want to upgrade only ME to 2K professional
and still keep XP home. Is there any way to do that?

Thank for any idea.

Hi,

Yep, you just have one little think you will have to fix. Boot WinME, insert
a floppy and copy ntldr and ntdetect.com to it from the root. Then insert
the Win2000 CD and follow the upgrade prompts. When finished, the Win2000
boot loader will have overwritten the WinXP Home one, so you are going to
have to fix it by copying those files back to the root of the boot
partition. See this link from MVP Doug Knox for more details:

Greetings --

It's not technically possible to perform an upgrade from WinMe to
Win2K, as WinME is the newer OS. You'll have to back up your data and
start with a clean, freshly formatted partition.

After you've installed Win2K, MS-MVP Doug Knox's instructions will
help you restore the dual-boot:
