I currently have Windows 98 SE. I want to upgrade to
Windows XP. I would also like to install a new hard drive
(bigger, faster). I want to install XP to the new hard
drive, but still be able to access my existing software
which is installed on my old hard drive. I am ambivalent
about keeping W98 on the old hard drive (I don't need
multi-boot). I just don't want to reinstall all of my
software onto the new drive just so XP can find it. Is
there a way I can upgrade 98 -> XP but have XP get
installed onto a new/different drive?
Thanks,
Todd

Well, from what you say, you'd be best off ghosting your current drive onto
a much larger one, at the same time configuring it into two or more drives,
and installing XP onto a different drive. If you go for the "upgrade"
option instead of a fresh install onto a different drive, you'll probably
hit problems with hardware drivers and compatibility problems running some
older programs on XP.

If you set up for dual boot you can build up your XP drive over a period of
time, while keeping your W98 drive and programs usable.

regards, Richard
