upgrade home to pro problem

I had XP Pro (not OEM), bought a new computer (Dell 8300)
with XP Home, and am trying to install the Pro on it. It
ony goes thru a few steps and then shuts down, restarts in
a duel boot config for Home and Pro Setup. But if I choose
setup to continue, it crashes. Checking the "setuplog.txt"
I noted an entry:

LookupAccountSid failed. Error = 1332

Any other errors in other logs appear to be due to the
incomplete install.

Is setup or MS trying to recognize me by my prior computer?

I don't know what else to look for to get this working. Any
help to get this done would be greatly appreciated, and
yes, it is my Pro, not a bootleg.

1 - If you change your oem computer to xp pro when it cam with home, you
will viod your support and warranty with Dell.
2 - XP Home has most of the stuff pro does its just hidden. Why do you need
to goto pro, what are you trying to do?

I'm on a Microsoft monitoring panel and a Nielsen
monitoring panel and need to maintain what I had.

Also, I have two drives now, my old one with Pro and my
new one. I'd like to switch everything over to the larger
new drive (Home) and prefer the Pro.

Guess I should call Dell and see what they say about the
upgrade.

Yes if you want to keep your warranty and support call Dell first. You
should have just bought a computer with xp pro on it instead of xp home, but
anyway Dell may just make you buy xp pro from them then you keep your
warranty and support, but not sure.
Or if you don't care about that then try this:
*Warning - you will lose all data*

Boot to the xp cd and follow the on-screen instructions. The cd is bootable
and has all the tools to format and install.

Or,

Boot to a win9x floppy boot disk, run Fdisk, delete partitions, create new
partitions, reboot to boot disk again, run format, (or reboot to xp cd,
format, install xp). Get boot disk here: www.bootdisk.com
