just got a new HP Mini, tried to upgrade to XP Pro from XP Home. receive the
follow error "setup cannot continue because upgrade functionality is
disabled. how do you enable this

Why would you want to running WinXP Pro on a Mini? Are you aware of the
fact that doing so (if you could do so) would void your Warranty and any
Service Contracts?

I'd very much doubt that an OEM version of WinXP Home qualifies for such an
upgrade.

unable to network via domain with WinXP Home.

Do you actually need the computer to be a member *of* the domain - or just
access the domain resources?

Your computer - in most cases - does not need to be a member of the domain
in order to do things like access shares and/or printers the domain
manages - as long as you have a user account with said access in the domain
and can map them manually/with scripts when you need them.
