Upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro Hangs

I just attempted to upgrade my grandson's Dell Inspiron 8200 from XP Home to
XP Pro. At the 13 minutes remaining point, the following error appeared:

"UNREGMP2.exe - Entry point not found

The procedure entry point GETIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link
library MSDART.DLL"

What is the problem? Thanks.

Well, I tried CTRL-ALT-DEL to get out of the hang-up, but that didn't work.
So I just turned the computer off by holding down the power switch for a few
seconds. Then I rebooted and the XP setup program resumed at about the 35
minutes remaining mark. It appeared to get through the rest of the
installation OK, but at the very end a screen page of text appeared about
something that went wrong. However it disappeared from the screen too fast
to read. So I rebooted and just as the boot was about to complete, I got the
following error message:

"Windows Product Activation - A problem is preventing Windows from
accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: oX80004005".
Then the only thing possible to do was to log off.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Boot to safe mode by hitting F8 at the startup right after the POST. Logon
as administrator.

Start/run regsvr32 regwizc.dll
Then start/run regsvr32 licdll.dll

If this doesn't help try these steps:

Start the computer in Safe mode by hitting F8 at bootup. Start/run regedit.
Delete the following keys:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers

Exit the registry editor, restart normally.

Hello again:

Rick, I decided to do a clean install (remove the existing partition, create
a new partition, format as NTFS, and then install XP Pro).

The reason is because I purchased this machine used, as a gift for my
grandson. I felt that the previous owner may have garbled something in the
OS. So I decided to go with a clean slate.

After doing this, the XP Pro system runs perfectly. No glitches at all.

Regards,

Papa

Ok, thanks for the feedback. Personally, I always create a clean install
when trasferring ownership of a machine.
