Upgrade from XP Home to Pro

will not allow the upgrade receive message cannot install because current
version is a newer version. Is it because SP-2 is installed and is a newer
version than the XP Pro version I'm trying to install

Hi john629,

Yes, that is the reason that you're receiving the error message. You could
either uninstall SP2 and then run the upgrade, or you could create a
slipstreamed XP Pro with SP2 CD:
