We upgraded a customer's machine today and when it gets
to detect devices it hangs. We did run the Compatibility
wizard and removed all items of concern. I have also
looked at article number 310064 and am attempting to
apply it now. Also we can't restore to ME now. Any Idea's?

Try using a ME boot floppy and do a fdisk. Then see if it
will take ME. But I think you might have better luck
installing Win98SE then doing the XP upgrade.
I was told somewhere that even Microsoft does not support
or reccomend up grading from ME

If you are not doing a clean install (format the drive first), then I
would do so. If you still have problems with a clean install, test the
RAM with something like Memtest86. Allow the test to run for a long
time, like overnight. If the RAM is OK, then test the hard drive with a
utility from its mftr. Usually failures to install MS operating systems
are because of bad hardware.

Most of the upgrade problems with ME are due to polluted MEs. eg its
very common for a person whos win9X or ME PC is not working to "try and
fix it by upgrading".

Or, the ME PC has 49 backgound apps including spyware running so right
there you're pharked.
