Diagnosing WinXP 'hanging' or latency problems ...

Are there any third party utilities that would help in diagnosing WinXP
'hanging' or latency issues ? For some reason we have a high end machine
(quad core, 4GB ram, etc...) that constantly hangs and runs sluggish. We
are unable to determine the cause. We have looked at Task Manager during the
'hangs' and no processes seem to be taking up a lot of utilization (ie System
Idle Process is usually at like 98%), and there is plenty of physical memory
not being used. We have replaced the hard drive, memory modules, and later
the entire machine, but it still runs slow. We suspect it may be one or a
combination of apps that are running on it, but are unable to determine the
ones to remove or work on. The machine is running, among other things,
Outlook (and syncing to Exchange), iTunes (and syncing to Outlook and the
Internet), and also as a printer/fax/copier MFP device hooked up to it. So a
lot of the usual suspects for hanging are there. But we have tried to remove
many of them one at a time yet the hanging issue still persists. Any help on
this would be greatly appreciated.

Also, would Performance Monitor help with this issue ? What would be the
specific monitoring groups or settings we would want to focus on ?

TIA ...

Check in the Event Viewer (Apps and System),
to ensure nothing shows up there.

There`s also a little tool called Regmon
www.snapfiles.com/get/regmon.html
which will show you Registry activity in real time.
You could give that a try, `cos I seem to remember you
can tailor it, for your needs.
