Upgrade Advisor

I downloaded the Upgrade Advisor yesterday and it took and hour to scan and
had still not finished, so I unibnstalled it and tried again but still after
3 hours it had not scanned my system so had to cancel it. Can any-one tell me
if there is a problem with it at the moment.

Thankyou

There seems to be some conflicting hardware or application with the Upgrade
Advisor.

I would suggest a clean install or a dual boot in this situation. If the
upgrade advisor is hanging, then you would probably be asking for trouble to
try to upgrade.

Upgrade advisor has bugs that cause it to hang with certain combinations
of installed hardware/software. It's not that it's taking a long time,
it will never complete. MS is fixing these, but some still exist. If
the scan doesn't complete in a few minutes (at most), it's not going to
complete, and all you can do is wait for a new version of the advisor.

Thankyou for all your advice. I think I will wait until the Advisor has been
sorted before I do anything as I am not too technically minded so I would
want to know what if any Hardware won't work before up-grading or installing
anything. My computer meets with the requirements that much I do know. And as
for a Clean Install I am sorry but I don't know how to do this either.

Just downloaded, installed and ran the advisor with exactly the same result
as you. I had to cancel the scan after an hour (twice).

Mine is a Dell Precision 750, dual Xeon 2.8 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Quattro FX-3000
etc etc. It should easily run Vista, but I'm not going to even try to upgrade
to Vista when it's released unless the Advisor program runs properly. The
annoying thing is I can't even find a log file to see where the program is
hanging.
