I have a SONY VAIO Notebook with Windows 98 SE German Version on it. Now (because living in the US) I'd like to Upgrade to Windows XP Home Edition English Version. When I try to do it, I get an error message, that I'm not eligible to Upgrade because of the Language difference. Microsoft, is this a joke?
What can I do to fix this problem

Marcel

One cannot upgrade from one language version of Windows
to another language version. You'll need to purchase the
"Full English Version" of Windows XP Home Edition, reformat
your drive and install the new version "clean".

GREAT JOB MICROSOFT !!!
So of course I will NOT buy an "Full Version" of Windows XP and stay than with my Windows 98 SE

One also cannot upgrade a French poodle to a German Shepard
by feeding it sauerkraut and bratwurst.

Don't worry about it. Just "borrow" an English copy of 98 or 98SE
from a friend and use it as a qualifying version to install an English
upgrade copy of XP Home or Pro. You can even install the English copy
as dual boot with your German copy.
