Upgrade 98 to xp pro--error 5eaff58h?????

I'm just upgrading 98 to XP pro. I do not want to lose
any files or settings and just want to patch.

I ran the compatability check and it came up with error
5EAFF58H. Nothing more and the diag. quit and unable to
continue.

Does anyone know what this refers to?

Also, physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware devices,
especially USB devices (not including your mouse, keyboard or
monitor). Uninstall any antivirus program, too!
