error message when installing xp over 98 se

i keep getting the error message 5eaff58h.
first off it comes up cannot copy from d:/1386\mfc42.dll
to c:/setup1386mfc42.dll
then it shows 2 mnore cannot copy from to and then i get
the top error message
i have tried everything and looked everywhere
anyone got any ideas pleaseeeeeee

fix for win xp upgrade

copy the i386 directory to the hard drive
copy setup.exe file from the root of the cd to the i386 dir on hard drive
reboot in safe mode
run the setup.exe in safe mode
