updating windows defender

My windows update history shows KB 915597 successfully installed eight times,
some by auto update, some by manual update. However I still show 1.14.13616
as the installed version. I have tried removing the current signature file
through start run as has been suggested but I get the message that the patch
is unavailable, check with vendor. I have just received the message that
defender has not been updated in 18 days so I thought that I would try again
only to receive the following. Windows defender was unable to complete the
update 0x80240016. The device does not reconize the command.

Are you having this problem after installing the latest version (1.1.1347.0)
of WD? Its just been released:

I'm having the same problem. I downloaded the latest version (1.1.1347.0)
and still get the same message "Windows Defender was unable to complete the
update: 0x80070663. The patch package could not be opened....

Same problem here, downloaded ver 1347, error message 0x80070663. Even tried
the Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} thing. This generated
the same error but not in ballon form, instead it was reported via a dialog
box. System is SP2, running symantec IS 2006. Have tried updating with all
firewalls off. Same problem. Any ideas?

I think that I will Uninstall Windows Defender until I can be more confident
that it works properly. It seems that everyone is in the same boat and nobody
including microsoft has a solution. The previous Microsoft Antispyware never
gave me any problems at all.

Join the club macca. It appears that MS has lost interest. Defender is
not really worthless but not far from it. There are a lot of good people
trying to help here but they're fighting a losing battle. MS was on the
right track with MSAS but they lost it somewhere along the way.

Same prob here, says successful update for 1.14.1395.2 and 1.14.1396.12
Last working update was the April 07, 2006 (approx.) update, as installed,
sign. vers. above.
