Updating from 98SE to XP - OR getting the latest patches

Have just moved from Windows 98SE to XP. Did not completely check out
my two databases after this move (Much too much other trauma to even
worry about such matters). Then I downloaded the latest Office
patches from Microsoft. Now I find that I cannot set up another
report file to deal with a set of labels for a specific group. Keep
getting a message that this wizard is disabled (which it clearly is
not) or inviting me to re-install Access. Tried re-installing that
several times without success. Also uninstalled Access and relaoded
it. All without a result. Has anyone any ideas at all about what is
going on ? Remains of hair clearly visible on floor around computer
desk !! Ugh !
In some pain - so what's new ?

Changing your operating system usually doesn't affect Office, but it depends
on the version of Office.

What version of Office?

XP Pro

Old PC ran on 98SE with Office XP Pro plus Service Packs 1 and 2.

New PC runs on XP with new installation of Office XP Pro from original
discs. Service Pack 1 installed from previously downloaded file.
Then went to Update site and got SP2 followed by two or three later
small patches. Did not attempt to run Access until after all this
patching was complete. Then found the Label wizard was on strike (any
other Wizards also on stop-work ?). No items have been disabled and
re-installation is ineffective.

No joy in the Knowledgebase articles.

Took database back to old PC and was able to utilise the label wizard
quite normally. Suspect the problem lies in those patches following
SP2. Excel seems to be OK but only a few functions have been
utilised. Hardly ever use Word.

Wonder if anyone else has experienced similar problems in the last
week or two ?
