Updating defender definitions....this method works for me

Having suffered all the nightmares of updating definitions, especially the
for ever looping security shield icon ! I seem to have arrived with a
sequence that installs on my machines !

Can't promise it works for everyone !

1. Using windows install cleanup !
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301 remove the last
installed difinitions regardless of whether it the new update !

2 . Open windows defender : go to "about windows defender " click on
updates ! and do nothing else ! and after a short pause perhaps 30 sec or
more, the open page of windows defender refreshes showing the new signature
update ! however you then need to click on ok in about window defender for it
to close and appear in that window next time you reopen !

Hope it works for someone else !

I tried this last week to no effect, but, today, it worked and Defender is
back up and running. The question is, however, what happens in a few days
time?

I know still fingers crossed ! lol... however in the past I had always
opened the window update icon too click on start download ? watched it
download and request install etc ! whilst this time I did nothing after
clicking on check updates and the being preoccupied for a moment suddenly it
updated itself ? I then proceeded on another machine which had already got
into the looping effect ! with the same result !
