Hello,

I often reinstall my Windows XP Home. When I have done it, I must reload all
updates, service packets and hotfxes from the Microsoft Windows Update
Website. That's a lot of data to download. Is there any possibility of
downloading the updates and burinig it on CD? When I must reinstall the
updates I want to load them then from the CD.
Can anyone tell me, where I can find the files, which can burn on a CD to
use it later? Or does anyone know, if there are redistable Versions of the
updates?

Thank you

Bye

Windows Security Update CD
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp
The CD includes Microsoft critical updates released through October 2003
(and SP4 for Windows 2000 / SP1 for Windows XP) as well as information
to help you protect your PC.
Supports Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, and
Windows 98 Second Edition (SE).

You can download the others (or the updates after October) from the Catalog and
save to be installed later.

Go to the Windows Update site and look on the left side of the page for
Windows Update Catalog. If you go there, you can download all the
patches and burn them to a cd-r.

I don't know why you 'often' reinstall - it should not be necessary and
is not good routine maintenance.

But when you download an update, the actual download - an .exe file -
goes into Temporary Internet files. So if you clear that out in
advance, for convenience, at Internet Options, click Delete files, you
can catch them still there at the point the actual install gets going,
and copy them out to safety.

The full SP1a can be obtained on CD from
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp
(link at bottom of page, $10), and a consolidated security update, free,
from
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/default.asp
which between them will reduce the downloads a lot
