Updates wreak havoc

About a year ago I downloaded a Windows update that
wreaked havoc on my Compaq Presario 700 laptop. It made
the computer freeze and made my cursor jump all over the
screen, so that when typing it would jump to a different
place in a document. I eventually had to reformat the
hard drive, which helped until I downloaded another
Windows update about three months ago, which caused the
exact same problems again. It has just about rendered my
computer useless. Even typing this email took several
tries.

Gary;
Who knows what kind of issues your computer has when you update so
rarely.
You need to be keeping Windows up to date by checking Windows Update
at least monthly.
What update was involved?
Is it different each time?
What you describe has not been reported so possibly there is something
else going on.
Without specifics there is little anyone can do.
