Updates Ok only without IE

Hello,

i've got this problem : when installing an update with IE6 (from
WinUpdate web site), it downloads the available updates,
and fails to install any of them !
(no special error message, it just writes it can not install them)

BUT IF i use the auto-update service (task) : then everything is ok,
windows 2000 SP4 upgrades fine.

What could be the point ? any idea ?
