updated system, updated software, so do updated images?

I have prepared images for updated systems and frequent used software two
months ago, but now I found the images need to be updated again, so perhaps
I'd better store those images in the hard disk and update them as well? What
are your best suggestions and advice then?

Add incremental backups, or do a whole new full backup
and toss the old one.
You really need more room to keep more backups around
just in case you have one that's got corruption or
problems.
