updated from windows98 speakers not working

when i had windows 98 my speakers worked fine but when i
updated to xp profesional the speakers no longer work. if
anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it thank you

Did you download and install the Windows XP drivers for your sound card?

And what do your speakers need in order to produce sound?! I cannot believe
how many think that their sound card has absolutely nothing to do with the
production of sound and everything is a "problem with my speakers"!
