my defenders shows that I have not updated in 56 days. I tried the update
button no luck. I tried to delete the "Msiexec /x
{A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}," I get an error message that says
package can not be opened, i tried to uninstall and install still no luck.
any other suggestions ???

What happens if you go to Windows Update, do an express scan, and apply all
offered updates?

It says it updates but on defender it does not !!!

My question is , why is there so many problems with defender that microsoft
cant fit it?? Seems like EVERONE has a problem with the updates !!

A bit of an exaggeration 25 million haven' t installes beta 2 thats for sure
! the majority of users are unaware that it exsists ! and those that are have
gone back to beta 1. I would think, those of us stubborn enough stay with
beta 2 must be masochist , to continue using a such a product ! Its reported
now that Vista is again delayed until 2007, if Defender is anything to go by
its not a suprise ! one wonders about the competence of the programmers or
perhaps I should say incompetence.
One again the latest update 1.14.1353.2 wouldn't install easily ! and no
sign of a beta 3 correction ?

I did state clearly that number relates to Microsoft Antispyware. They are
expecting far more users than that--the idea is that most Windows users will
run this app.

I don't have any inside knowledge about fixes for the update issues. Since
there is a code update in this definition cycle, I'm hoping that we'll see
improvement the next time around.

Kevin--I see what you are talking about. I hadn't encountered it before,
because I normally update my Office apps via MicrosoftUpdate--which I'd
recommend, over that older scan. I believe I know what's happening, but I
haven't got a clear set of steps to work around it yet. This certainly
doesn't impact office--just this particular update site--and, I believe,
only until the next definition set is in place.

All i Did was HIGHLIGHT the Defender signature and removed it. I then went
to Microsoft Office and checked to see if there was any updates and it gave
me an error message, I then went and performed a system restore. I tried
Microsoft OFFICE update again and it worked. I re-installed Windows
Installer again, HIGHLIGHTED ONLY the defender file, and then tried the
Microsoft OFFICE update again. AGAIN, it gave me an error message. (try it
on your system and see if you get the same results)

PS I am not anti microsoft, I am very pro mircosoft including owning thier
stock, HOWEVER .. I believe they have DROPPED the ball big time on defender 2
and can't figure out the problems !!!
