update service is unavailable ?

I have just found this problem ...

In system properties ..

The windows update service is unavailable ??

The notiforcation settings are all in grey scale, any thoughts to why this should be so ...

Hi Chas,

Are you on a domain? This could be disabled as part of a group policy. That
way the system administrator has control over which updates are installed.
