Update Problem

iEach time I open Windows Defender, I get a message that the definitions
haven't been updated for 18 days. I click the update button and a little
later I get the balloon that updates are completed and Windows Defender is
now upto date. But Windows Defender still keeps saying my definations are out
of date.

Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Engel,

Thanks for your help. I went to the site you advised and tried to follow the
instructions for resolving the problem. I opend "run" and entered the given
string of charecters and hit ok. The response i got was - Error 1606: Could
not access network location. Nothing on the site gives any idea of how to
respons to this. Any ideas?

Thanks

tried kbid=915105 and it worked (thank you for the post); however, the
problem description is misleading in that it says if you uninstalled and then
re-installed you get the problem. I got the problem two days after my
original install. The problem was still there after un-installing and then
re-installing. I can't wait to see what happens when a new update to
definitions is installed (will i get the same problem as before?). Only time
will tell.

Whilst this problem seems to continue with every new update,
one wonders why microsoft had to tamper with the beta 1 version update
system ?
or whether they read any of these posts on the problems they are creating !

It appears that despite a successfull download the new definitions are not
taken into account by windows defender, and thus continues to say they are out
of date.

The following tool appears more successful :-
http://support.microsoft.com/scid=kb;en-us;290301
than the the line of instruction you have already tried ! as that popped up
with the error message ! for me too.

After several attempts today finally got it updated in my case windows
defender seems to prefer, that I use the " about windows defender ...& then
check for updates & Ok "
After having removed the previous update with the clean up tool !

Never the less its frustrating having a second computer, with identical
system although different hardware! which updates automatically without any
problem so far !

I have the same problem with the update kb915597. I have tried both the
kb915105 and the kb290301 solutions but after installing it again, Microsoft
Update still tells me the update is downloaded and awaiting installation...
Please fix this before I commit hari kari.

My apologies, the kb290301 solution has worked ok. Now I have other problems
not encountered pre-Defender, in that the wireless LAN needs to be repaired
frequently in order to gain internet access. It could be to do with a Sony
uPnP or some updater hogging the connection, or maybe Defender not having
Skype or even Windows OneCare on its list yet. Am I alone in these problems?
