Update on LEGALLY Sellilng a Dell Express Upgrade.....

Well I just spoke with Dell and was told the following:

1. I am able to sell/transfer my upgrade to another person
2. the upgrade itself is NOT an OEM version but rather a retail upgrade, no
different from what is sold in the store.

I asked again to be sure and the agent checked with her manager and
confirmed. Could this be true? If so, one can upgrade asap and sell them on
ebay when the upgrade finally arrives for probably 20 bucks less then you
have to pay, thus costing only 20 bucks to get it now vs wait into Dell gets
its act together and ships them.

Thoughts? Seems a little too good to be true.

Hey, if it works, it works. And people will take advantage of it. I'd be
checking eBay for cheap versions of Vista upgrades! :)

The only thing, which someone mentioned to me in a similar thread, is that
due to the amount of pirate stuff around, eBay themselves, and eBay buyers
can be a little bit wary of any MS software being advertised, even if it IS
genuine.
You may not be able to sell it there for as much as you hope...Then again of
course, maybe you will, just be careful!

For what Dell charges for the hardware they give you - this should be true.
But I agree with your suspicions.

IANAL .. but if you remove it from the first computer you can transfer a
retail copy to a second.

Rule of thumb:
1. Do not steal.
2. Do not commit surpassing copyright violation.

Rule of Microsoft:
1. One licence, one copy, one computer.

You cannot install it AND then ALSO sell it. What about product activation?
What's going to happen to the next person down the line if you have
activated your copy?

I am not talking about installing and selling it, of course that wouldn't
work. I am talking about buying a version from say bestbuy today and then
when dell sends it in a month or two selling that version unused to someone.
