MediaMonkey (formerly SongsDB) is a bloated piece of junk. IMO, YMMV
but I doubt it.

I don't agree: I use it and it is lighter than iTunes, has the
incremental search (that I love), can use winamp 2.xx plugin (like
pacemaker or Vocal Remover).
Alternatives ?

It's not easy to make it work as good as possible, that's right.
But that's up to the user.

A user has to review ALL his MP3 ID3-tags for the program to work like
a charm.
Most people don't have the patience to do this.
I myself have a lot of MP3-albums, all ID3v1&2 tagged 100% correctly by
Artist-Title-Album-Genre-Year-etc-etc...
MediaMonkey is really beautiful software when you arrange your
MP3-collection like this.

I can sort, play, arrange and make playlist using all these criteria.

So dadiOH, just tag all your MP3's as complete as possible, install
MediaMonkey, scan your music, combine the Various Artists albums and
then tell my what you think about it...

Regards,

Arjan

Mine is except I don't use ID3v2 tags. No need. Don't really need
ID3v1 either but I still tag my stuff with them.

So can I. With a program of less than 1MB installed vs 23MB. And with
a DB of 3.47 MB vs 26MB for the same quantity of songs. DB opens much
faster too naturally.

You can read what I think about it in my dandies (below) under "Other
Programs - More Database Programs" (it was SongsDB then).

Personally, I like MP3Stock. It is about as light as you can get, uses
Winamp (all features and plugins).
http://leif.cx/mp3stock/index.html (click image to d/l)

It isn't for everyone though, uses ID3v1 tags and/or file names. The
lack of ID3V2 tags support is no loss in my view. It it does what it is
supposed to do - find anything or organize using any criteria - very
well and very rapidly. Other useful stuff too, more info in my dandies
below.

BTW, I wasn't knocking your post, just the program itself.

The lack of ID3v2 means shorter titles/artist names/album names/etc,
because there's a character-limit to the ID3v1 tags. I find this very
annoying.
The new MediaMonkey also supports Album Art with the new beta version,
and that makes it al very cool looking.
But everyone just has to use what he thinks is best for him/her.
You have mp3stock, I have mediamonkey, and that's fine.

ID3v1 tags have fixed fields but the file names don't.

Yep :)
