Will always be the best media player IMHO.

But that's just MY opinion. ;-)

Mine is they have a severe case of "featuritis" that renders the
program almost unusable if you try to do anything but simply play a
file.

I spent FOUR hours fighting codec problems last week (although I tend
to blame that one on a Microsoft Registry key for some codec probably
getting corrupted - god I hate that damn Windows Registry crap!) which
necessitated uninstalling and reinstalling Winamp and ALL the codecs
and then TWO hours trying to get Winamp to reload my Media Library
with some semblance of order without being "smart" about detecting
artist, track, etc. I have my MP3s and videos named as artist, song
(or video) name, then parens enclosing whatever other info I need to
identify it. I don't need Winamp trying to "decode" that to determine
artist, track, album, ad nauseum. It was putting the directory name in
the album field, for Christ's sakes! And it was putting all the videos
but the MOV files in the audio view and only the MOV files in the
video view.

And God forbid they had any documentation for why any of this was
happening!

Finally, noticing the stupidity of their putting the directory in the
album field (apparently, they assume everybody has one directory per
album - LOL, Winamp!), I used the "query language" in the view builder
to get all the stuff from "Music Videos" and "Videos" into the video
view and everything else (from "Music") into the audio view. Finally
it works.

But now they've pissed me off, so I'm going to look for a replacement.
There's a LOT of high-powered free players out there these days.

And since NullSoft is history now, anyway, it's over for Winamp...

Why people write software that has a user interface that looks like a
badly designed consumer electronics gadget... Fortunately the latest
Winamp improved on that quite a bit from the old days...
