here is my issue.

i have never successfully downloaded service pack 1 because
kept getting this error.

i never was able to download the security patch issued in
july because of this error. (before i got the worm). i
have a sony viao, if that makes any difference.

got the worm on monday night. have succesfully cleaned it.

still can't get the service patch or service pack 1 because
of this error. have tried all the solutions posted here.
none work.

i downloaded the network service pack 1 (full thing, rather
than the express thing) onto a CD at work, brought it home.
put it in my cd drive. puter won't read the CD, just
whirrs around, if i put in another CD it reads fine.

I know the CD works, because we used it this afternoon on
someone at work who didn't have the security patch either
and didn't want to download it direct because could get the
worm while doing that. so CD is good, my drive reads other
CDs, but won't read the CD with the network version of
service pack 1.

oh and one other thing, since i got this virus, i can't
connect through msn without getting cut off. but AOL works
fine (that is how i am connected now). BUT if i look at my
network connections, it actually shows AOL as disconnected.
Usually use MSN, but reactivated an old AOL account to see
if it would work, and so far does.

I have exactly the same problem. I downloaded the patch
for WIN XP 32... tried to install, but got the
cryptographic error. I deleted the catroot2 folder, and
tried to reinstall. it went further that time, but still
gave me the error. I went back and looked, and viola, the
catroot2 folder was back.

HELP!!!

(I am also haveing the same connectivity issues as
described below)
