Update Date and Time in Word 2003

When I use Insert - Date and select the checkbox to automatically update it
doesnt seem to update the time. I would think if it showed the current time
(10:15AM) and I closed it and reopened 10 minutes later, the time would be
updated to (10:25AM) but it still gives the old time (10:15AM).

Am I expecting too much from this feature?

Thanks!

Some fields should update automatically - Date, which reads the system
date/time of the PC, is one of them. Are you sure you have inserted a field
(ALT+F9 will toggle the display) and not plain text?

Yes, when I use the Insert menu - Date and time - select a time and check the
box, I am inserting a field, yet the document doesnt update when it is closed
and reopened. Is there an "update field" button I need to use? I know this
feature works with dates, as i have used it that way.

If you are sure it is a field, because you have checked as instructed, then
it should update automatically. You can always force an update by selecting
and using F9 or by use of the macro at
