a friend of mine did something where i am now getting reminders this friend
"invited me" in my email and!! when i oend my bulk mail earlier i found 14
diff unwanted emails related to that same source -- how do i stop this??

Change your email address. Your friend was kind enough to get your name
added to an email distribution list, and that has likely been sold to other
distributers. Requests to remove it are often ignored and only serve to
confirm that the address is valid. There will likely be nothing you can do
to stop it. Change the address, don't tell your friend what the new one is,
and admonish them severely for giving out the old one stressing how much of
a PITA it is for you to have to do this.

It's probably the instant messaging thing. Your friends sending you an email and
you need to respond to the invitation.
