unwanted renumbering of an XL file

Hi,

I am using office2000/win2k and on opening directly one specific excel file
which name ends with a figure (for example 834.xls ) under outlook (double
click on the icon of the attached document) I get a renumbering of this
excel file (the excel workbook title shows 8341.xls)

A normal opening (save attached file then double-click on the resulting
file) does not generate any renumbering

outlook uses temporary files when opening attachments.. you can see the
folder by opening attachment, then doing a file save as,.. are you
receiving emails with the same file name? cause everytime you receive
the same file name, outlook creates a temporary file with a 1, 2, 3 etc
at the end.. to distinguish between different attachments.. if this is
the case you should get the sender to change the file name, cause i
know it causes problems when receiving too many of the same file name
as an attachment.
