We are programmatically writing out an XLS file from our accounting
application. Application has been working for years. When we try to open
the file that is created on a computer running Windows 7, it gets Excel found
unreadable content in xxxx.xls. Do you want to recover the contents of this
workbook? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes. (Can click on
Yes, but file is still unreadable with Win7). We get the same message on
Win7 with both Excel 2003 and Excel 2007. The same XLS file will open just
fine with either Excel 2003 or Excel 2007 on a Vista or Windows XP machine.
Would be glad to send you a copy of the XLS file.

Charlie,
Get my email addy either from this message (no TRUENORTH.) or from my
website.
I would be interested in trying to open the file in question
best wishes

Hi there - did you ever find a fix for this as we are experiencing the same
problem only on Windows 7 machines

Many thanks,

I face a similar problem with .xlsm files in Excel2007 in Vista, which I notices only today.
The saved xlsm files when opened in another machine with Exscel2007 creates the message 'Excel found Unreadable content ...'.
But in my own machine, it does not create any problem.
When in the problem system, continued with 'recover - YES' choice, the program works as normal.
This was does not happen with the files I saved two months ago. If I open the same 2 month old file and re-save it the the problem exists with the re-saved file.
Interestingly, if saved as 2003 xls fle, the problem vanishes, although the macros and the VB script are still a part of the fle!
I suspect some problem with some update which I have done and others in the other machines have not.
Is thee any way of reversing the update?

My last update was KB977724, couple of weeks back. Tried hot-hot fix as suggested at http://blogs.technet.com/office_sus...es-with-office-after-installing-kb977724.aspx
Still the problem remains.

Would appreciate any help.

Subsequently, I located the problem.
My Excel was in Office 2007 SP2 whereas the others were Office 2007 however no SP.
After I upgraded those to SP2 the problem vanished.
