I'm running 2000pro, and for several days I've been
getting a window that pops up saying "Installing microsoft
office XP" , "please insert disc."

I have to hit the cancel button seversl times to get it
cancelled, but it will pop up again a few minutes later.

Any ideas how to stop it?

What are you doing when this message appears? Have you installed Office XP
completely to run all components from your hard drive? What happens if you
put in the CD and let it do what it wants, once?

Thanks for the response....

I have to click cancel in 3 subsequent windows to finally
cancel. I do not have an office xp disc. Haven't used
it in 3 years. Is it possible some file is trying to open
the program? If so, how would I find that file?

Hard to say, really. Check your application event logs...

I've had this problem after deleting an application's .msi file and/or {#X#X#X#X#-#X#X-#X#X-X#X#-X#X#X#X#X#X#X#X} directory in the c:\windows (or winnt)\Installer directory. Why apps have to keep a copy of their bloatware installer files is beyond me...
