Unwanted icons on startup

Each time I start up my computer, four unwanted and
unasked for, icons appear.
Each time I delete them only to find that they interfere
when I close down and then reappear when I restart my
computer.
I would very much like to delete these icons permanently.

If you don't know where they came from, your computer may have been hacked of
infected. Be sure to run a current anti virus program on it and also something like
SpyBot Search and Destroy to scan for parasites and can be used in advanced
mode/tools to view and disable unwanted startup programs and also see what processes
are running on your computer mapped to the owning application . If they are from an
unused application, then use add/remove programs to uninstall the software. Otherwise
look in the "all users" profile under documents and settings/all users/desktop to see
if they are there and then delete them. --- Steve

Please describe the icons that were appearing on your desktop. Were they shortcuts or actual applications? I might have a similar problem. Thanx. Richard
