I have a file that I want to delete.
By a suggestion I renamed it to x.bat and still cannot
delete it. The file's attribute is A. Will someone
please give me the command line to change the attributes
to somthing else. Maybe that will alow me to delete it.
Thanks
Larry

Delete - AVI, MPG... files (access denied error)

Close all open apps. Open a command prompt and navigate to the directory
with the offending files. Then open the Task Manager and click on the
Processes tab. select "Explorer.Exe" under Image Name. Click "End Process".

Now you will only have the command prompt and the task manager. In the
Command Prompt, DEL the offending files (DEL *.mpg, DEL mus*.avi, DEL
test.wmv, etc.)

The files should now delete without a problem. Now go back to the task
manager and click on the Applications tab. Click the "New Task..." button.
in the dialog, type Explorer.Exe and click OK.

.
If you are having problems deleting a certin file,
reboot your computer. When it begins to reboot press the
F9 key, this will allow your computer to start in Safe
Mode. Once in Safe Mode you can run spyware or EZ
cleaaner and delete files that you can not see with
normal boot up or is being used by someone else. Being
in Safe mode will allow you to delete any other file
also. Just restart computer when done, and it should
boot up like normal.

If you change the extension as a way of releasing it, you must then
reboot, so that it is not picked up next time - and then delete it.

The A attribute is not relevant - that merely indicates to backup
programs that there is no existing backup of this file in its present
state, so they should include it in an 'incremental' backup
