Unwanted desktop icon

I tried to save a web page to my desktop, but must have had my cursor over a
graphic when I did the rigght click sequence. Instead of a link icon, I got
a box with a box that looks like an unsuccessfully loaded image/graphic (the
outline of a square with an inset red 'x'). I tried to delete this box
without luck. Changing the background does not erase it. Can you direct me
to the location of the desktop items? Is it in the registry?

for XP its in (if i recall correctly) C:\my documents\users\desktop. Or try
the windows folders. Is there an error you get when you cant delete it? if
so, what is it?

Do you have "lock web items on desktop" enabled? Right click an empty space
on the desktop\ "arrange icons by'" and uncheck.
Also right click desktop\properties\desktop\customize desktop\ make sure
"lock items" is not checked.

Jim:

I read your message, and was able to solve a bad problem I was having with
my own desktop icons. Thanks a million for you clear, concise, and very
helpful suggestions.
