removing unwanted desktop icon

In installing a link to a shared application across our peer-to-peer network,
I attempted to make the installation before mapping the drive where the
application resides. The result was to place an icon on my desktop that
refers to an unknown drive location (TaxWise 2008 on) The icon should have
been named "TaxWise 2008 on Z Drive" The system will not allow me to delete
the defective icon, saying "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source
file or disk."

How can I remove this icon?

Reboot into Safe Mode, then try again. If you still cannot delete it, do
this:
- Right-click the icon.
- Left-click Properties
- Left-click the General tab
- Report what you see under "General".
- Untick the attribute boxes at the bottom.
