I have a word pad icon on my desk top named "Read more [1]... I have tried
to delete it by right clicking and when I try to delete I get the following
message "cannot delete file:cannot read from, the source file or disk". When
I look at the properties of the icon:

Type of file: File
Open with:
Location: is in Documents and settings
Size: 0 bytes
Size on disk: 0 Bytes
Created:
Modified:
Acessed:

I have tried spyware programs but does not help.
I have tried to delete thru Windows Explorer result is the same as above
Windows XP Home is installed.

Any suggestions on how to make the icon disappear?

Thanks Mark

Mark,
Tried your suggestion and did not do any good. Any other thoughts?

Try Error Checking the drive. Rightclick the drive Icon in Explorer,
Properties, Tools tab, error check.

Two thoughts: You might be able to delete it in safe mode, or failing
that, if you can get to the recovery console (which is like a simple
"DOS prompt") then you should be able to navigate to the "Desktop"
directory and delete it from there. If not, the error message may be
more meaningful.

I can't remember the last time I used either safe mode or the recovery
console, so you don't want directions from me.

Unless you changed some of the default Group Policy security settings
you will not be able to access the Desktop folder from the Recovery
Console, you will only have access to the Root folder of the hard
disk(s) and to the %systemroot% folders and its subfolders.
