Greyed out desktop icon won't delete

Somehow I opened a document in Word and a new icon showed up on my desktop
that is greyed out. When I try to delete it, I get this message, "cannot
delete file:
cannot read from the source file or disc." When I check properties for
this new icon, it shows Zero bytes for size and size on disc. Can you tell
me how to get rid of this icon? Thanks

get a small little program called unlocker. Its free and all those files they
say "sorry could not find file or file being used by another process etc"
will be putty in your hands. Just right click the file/folder to delete,
click unlocker, highlight the locking program and then click unlock. The
unlocker screen will dissappear. now right click and delete the file again
and PRESTO! All gone
this little sucker rocks!!!
