unusual standby problem

I am running a Pentium 2.4 with Windows XP home and whenever I am away
from my computer I put the computer on standby as I've had three power
supplies catch fire and ruin computers. Yesterday I get the message
"the device driver for the 'communications port (COM1)' device is
preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all
applications and try again. If the problem persists you may need to
update his driver."
there does not appear to be any device operating on communications
port 1. The drivers are something like: "serenum.sys" and
"serial.sys"
when I remove these drivers I then get the same message regarding the
modem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the modem but it makes no
difference.
Please help.
Thanks,
Harry

Thank you for that information. So far, that has made a huge
difference and probably has corrected the problem. Even Quicken
technical support couldn't help. Especially important was the
Microsoft knowledge base article 810905.
Again, my thanks for your help.
Harry
