Standby failure

In Windows XP I can't get my computer to go in to standby
mode. It fails. The message I receive says - The device
driver for the communications port (com1) device is
preventing machine from entering standby. Any help
will be appreciated.

Check the hardware connected on COM1, unplug it and see
if you an go into Standby. Also try to update the drvier
from that hardware.
