Unusual file on Win2KPro Desktop

hi...just wondering if anyone else has seen this, or might
possibly be able to explain it.

Every once in a while, a file will show up on my desktop.
The file is named ~ (Yes, the "tilda" or however you
spell it.) It doesnt appear to do anything, and it will
allow me to delete it...I just dont know what it is, or
why it is there....

A "bug" in one of the Internet Explorer updates causes a backup copy of
your Addressbook to be saved to the Desktop with the ~ as the file name.
You can delete or ignore it.
