My daughter came home from evening shift to find her computer had rebooted
itself during her absence. This has now happened on three successive
occasions. She does have the Firewall activated and has virus scanning
software and nothing sinister in the way of a virus has shown up. Does
anybody have any solutions please.

Might be what is known as "spyware". It's more of a generic term for
malicious software that can find its way onto a computer via e-mail or by
clicking on something on a web page. To be sure, obtain one of the popular
spyware detectors (and eliminators), of which there are many, but here are
two that have been reviewed highly by the computer magazines: Spybot Search
and Destroy (with a name like that you know it means business) and AdAware.
Find them on the Internet.

If your system is configured to reboot when it encounters a critical error
(blue screen), this is expected. You can get more details on the error from
Event Viewer:

- right-click My Computer, and select Manage
- expand "Event Viewer" and take a look at the System Log
