Unsafe removal of device

I'm getting a windows that pops up every now and then that's entitled
"Unsafe Removal of Device" and it's referencing my CD ROM Drive.

How can I make this stop happening?

Is it a USB CD ROM drive? If not, I'd suggest that it is a hardware
problem. How is it connected to your system?
