Unrecognised USB devices

Strangely, When I connect some USB devices my PC dosen't
recognise them (Win 2K PRO). It gives me that little green
arrow to safely remove the hardware but is not seen in
Explorer. Other USB devices are ok?
 
Some "devices" need you to install their particular driver before you
plug them in.
