Unread Messages Displayed as Read

I recently changed from a POP3 account to an IMAP setting. Since dong that,
when I receive new messages in the morning when I open Outlook they look as
though they have been read (they are not in bold face), but in fact they have
not been read. Can you please help me as to why this is happening and how to
correct. I also have a second account, GMAIL, that is also IMAP and this
does not happen with this account. Your assistance would be greatly
appreciated.
 
i'm having this same issue and could be because i'm new to IMAP. all new
messages are marked as read, no envelope, no sound, no bold. any ideas? i've
googled everywhere.

You probably won't se the new mail notification or the hear a sound. Those
work only for the delivery location folders and IMAP folders can never be
the delivery location folders. Bold and unread should work, though. They
do for me.
 
yeah it's driving me crazy. when i googled it, i saw your post on some
Outlook forum other than this and saw where you said it was working for you.
I think you also told the person to move the send/receive to 10 minutes
instead of 5 (which mine was at) and to download all messages instead of just
headers.

i could be wrong on the above two, but i've done both, and still doesn't
work. i don't even know if i can make a rule for this, but it is aggravating.
